Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal shaft pump reducing the starting torque required for a motor driving the pump and capable of quickly starting a pumping operation.
SOLUTION: An opening section 35 is provided at the upper section of a suction elbow 12 on the upperstream side than a pump casing 10, a priming detecting means 36 is provided on the opening section 35, and it is communicated with a vacuum suction device 40 via a vacuum cutoff valve 38. The vacuum suction device 40 is started, and a motor is started for an aerial operation. When the water level in the suction elbow 12 does not reach the opening section 35, air is sucked by the vacuum suction device 50. When the water level reaches the opening section 35 and a detection signal is outputted from the priming detecting means 36, the vacuum cutoff valve 38 is closed, and a discharge valve 28 is opened to start a pumping operation.
