PURPOSE: To increase space lower than a rotor of an electric motor, and solve the lack of lubricating oil by arranging the inside diametrical center of a stator of the electric motor to drive a compression mechanism housed in a closed housing so as to be made eccentric upward to the outside diametrical center.

CONSTITUTION: This motor-driven compressor houses a scroll type compression mechanism C and an electric motor M in a closed housing 8, and these are connected to each other through a rotary shaft 5 extending horizontally. Lubricating oil 57 is sucked by means of an oil suction pipe 56 by driving an oil pump 51 according to rotation of the rotary shaft 5, and is returned to the bottom part of the closed housing 8 from an oil discharge hole 62 after respective bearings 71-73 and so on are lubricated through an oil feed hole 52. In this case, the inside diametrical center of a stator Mb of the electric motor M is made more eccentric upward by a prescribed distance than the outside diametrical center. Thereby, since space below a rotor Ma of the electric motor M is enlarged, a large quantity of lubricating oil can be stored in this space, so that seizure and so on caused by the lack of lubricating oil can be prevented.
