To eliminate a gas vent flange, etc., and to provide a simple structure of a horizontal type multistage electrolytic cell for electrolyzing sea water.
The cylindrical body 5 of the electrolytic cell is internally provided with electrode plates 1 in multiple stages and is provided with energizing terminal cases 14, an inlet nozzle pipe 7 and an outlet nozzle pipe 8 at both ends. These energizing terminal cases 14 of both ends are provided with electrode plate tightening bolts 10 for tightening the plural electrode plates 1 from the right and left and (+) side energizing terminals 12 or (-) side energizing terminals 11 which connect the respective electrode plates 1 and are projected from the flanks of the energizing terminal cases 14. The sea water flows in from the inlet nozzle pipe 7 and flows between the electrode plates 1, by which the sea water is electrolyzed and is discharged from the outlet nozzle pipe 8. While the energizing terminals 11, 12 are heretofore disposed to project vertically, these terminals are projected horizontally in this embodiment and, therefore, there are no spaces in the upper part and lower part and the accumulation of gaseous hydrogen and scale does not arise. There is, therefore, no need for the gas vent flange.
