To improve the wettability of the sliding face to molten metal and to reduce the friction and wear therein with molten metal as a lubricant by composing at least either sliding face in the shaft part and bearing part of a roll of iron boride ceramics.
At least either sliding face of the shaft part and bearing part of a roll rotating in molten metal is composed of iron boride ceramics. The other side may be composed of the material excellent in corrosion resistance such as cermet or the like, but it is preferably composed of iron boride ceramics or the other ceramics. As the ceramics to be used for the sliding face on the other side, ceramics of oxide, carbide, nitride or boride may be used, but, in consideration of use in a metallic bath heated at a high temp., the ceramic material of oxide such as Al2O3, ZrO2 or the like, carbide such as SiC, TiC or the like, nitride such as Si3N4, BN, sialon or the like and boride such as TiB2, ZrB2, FeB or the like is used.
