To efficiently produce molten iron at high productivity by using coke for iron-making when producing the molten iron by melting iron-based scraps in a vertical scrap melting furnace.
Refractory brick lumps are charged together with the iron-based scraps from a furnace top part. Since the refractory brick lumps charged into the furnace exist at the lower area of the furnace, the existing ratio of the cokes in the lower area is reduce, so that the reaction (combustion) of the cokes is suppressed, thereby effectively utilizing the combustion energy of the cokes for the melting of the iron-based scraps. Thus, the molten iron can efficiently be produced at the high productivity by melting the iron-based scraps highly efficiently in the case of using the coke for iron-making or even in the case of enhancing the using ratio of the coke for iron-making.
