PURPOSE: To permit easy rolling at a specified draft, etc. with a simple construction by adequately adjusting the respective screw down setting conditions of both screw type and hydraulic type screw down devices relatively from each other according to the rolling conditions for a metallic strip.
CONSTITUTION: The oil pressure larger than the oil pressure corresponding to the anticipated max. rolling load is exerted to a hydraulic screw down cylinder 38 to fix the screw down position of a lower work roll 34B corresponding to the cylinder 38 to the advance end thereof an din this state the screw down position of an upper work roll 34A corresponding to a screw 37 is set by the operation of the screw 37. The rolling state at the specified draft of the metallic strip 39 is thereby obtd. If necessary, the oil pressure corresponding to the desired rolling load is exerted to the cylinder 38 to set the screw down position of the roll 34B to the prescribed position and in this state the roll 34A is positioned by the operation of the screw 37 so as to contact with the roll 34B. The rolling state under the specified rolling load is thus obtd.
