To propose an advantageous hot rolling method reducing surface defects which may occur on a hot rolled plate made of a silicon-containing steel slab of a certain component system.
To reheat and hot roll a steel slab having a composition including C: 0.03 mass% or less, Si: 2.0-5.0 mass%, Mn: 0.005-1.0 mass%, sol. Al: 0.040 mass% or less, N: 0.0005-0.0150 mass%, S+Se: 0.030 mass% or less, with the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities, assuming that a rate of temperature rise of the steel slab during the reheating is R1 (°C/min.) from the start of reheating to 750°C and R2 (°C/min.) from 750°C to 1050°C, the steel slab is reheated so that R1 and R2 satisfy the relation of the following formula; 20°C/min.≥R2≥R1≥2°C/min., and then it is hot rolled.
