In the hot-water storage type water heater 100 capable of executing: boiling-up single operation for boiling up water in a hot-water storage tank 10 by using a heat pump unit 60; hot-water storage reheating operation for exchanging heat between a high-temperature water stored in the hot-water storage tank 10 and a bathtub water in a utilization side heat exchanger 22 to heat the bathtub water; and reheating operation for protecting a boiling-up heat exchanger for executing cooling operation of the heat pump unit 60 by combination of the hot water storage reheating operation, switching to the reheating operation for protecting the boiling-up heat exchanger is performed when reheating request is performed during the boiling-up single operation. Switching to the hot water storage reheating operation is performed after the boiling-up heat exchanger 62 is cooled by the reheating operation for protecting the boiling-up heat exchanger.
