To provide a housing type toothbrush where a brush member and a grip member can easily and smoothly be connected and disconnected to/from each other when housing the brush after using it and the brush member is rocked little during using the brush and which is highly compact.

In the connecting area of the brush member 1 and the grip member 2 having an elliptic cross section suitable for the grip and provided with a housing space 2b inside, an annular connection stopper 4 is formed. At the positions of four places in total consisting of two places symmetrical to each other respectively with respect to the center axis of the elliptic shape with this stopper 4 as a center, hill-shaped projecting pieces 5a to 5b for connecting during storing which face up in a vertical direction, and hill-shaped projecting pieces 6a to 6b for connection during use which face down in the vertical direction, are formed successively in the shape of a thin rectangle. These are inserted detachably to fitting slits 7a to 7b formed on the side of the grip member 2 to tightly abut when the brush member 1 and the grip member 2 are connected.
