Abstract:

To easily and efficiently carry out primary concentration of a catalyst of the platinum group which is noble metal in a state of particles from a honeycomb structure, by easily carrying out two crushing processes.

The method of concentrating a platinum group catalyst from an automobile exhaust converter includes a process of carrying out primary crushing of a honeycomb structure 1 coated with an aluminum layer 5 with its inner face 4 supporting a platinum group catalyst to form particles by giving it a compression force or an impact force using a crusher or a hammer, which honeycomb structure 1 is used as an automobile exhaust converter, a process of exposing the alumina layer 5 supporting a platinum group catalyst to the external surface, and a process of carrying out secondary crushing of the particles obtained by the primary crushing by causing the particles to collide with each other in water or in air, whereby only the alumina layer 5 coated on the surface of the particles is exfoliated without almost destroying the honeycomb structure 1 which is a base material 2 of the particles, and the alumina layer 5 is crushed into fine particles.
