Abstract:
To realize further improvement in fuel efficiency and reduction in an oil consumption amount.SOLUTION: A method for creating a shape of a 3-piece oil ring installed on a piston of an internal combustion engine comprises: an initial grinding process to create an initial barrel shape with an outward convex in a radial direction, by grinding a first outer periphery 82a of a first side rail 73a and a second outer periphery 82b of a second side rail 73b in a state of being separated from a holding member with a grinding tool; an assembling process to inwardly incline the first outer periphery and the second outer periphery with respect to an axial direction by assembling the first and second side rails into the piston together with the holding section; and an adjustment operation process to finalize a barrel shape with the outward convex in the radial direction, by grinding axially outer regions 82a-1 and 82b-1 more than axially inner regions 82a-2 and 82b-2 of the oil ring on the first outer periphery and the second outer periphery with the oil ring slid against a cylinder of the internal combustion engine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 18
