Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for breaking a cut workpiece made of glass, having a wall thickness of 1 millimetre or more, comprising the following steps: the cut surface of the workpiece is placed against an abutment with two flexible pressure hoses whereupon both flexible pressure hoses are placed at a defined distance from the cut along the entire length of the workpiece parallel to said cut; a penetrating body is positioned on the opposite surface, whereupon the penetrating area of said penetrating body lying on said surface extends at least partially over the length of the cut at least as far as an end area thereof until the penetration area of the penetrating body is located in the plane of the cut; the penetrating body is subsequently moved in the direction of the cut, remaining parallel to the surface so that a tensile stress is created in the surface of the material crosswise in relation to the direction in which the cut extends and the cut opens out along the entire length thereof, without causing any breakage; the penetrating body is subsequently inclined at a given angle alpha whereby the depth of penetration in the region of one end of the cut is at its highest; - the penetrating body is then moved parallel to the surface of the material in the direction of the cut while maintaining the adjusted angle alpha .
