Abstract:

To provide a technique in which temperature of a filter can be maintained or raised even when a low-load driving state is set during regeneration of the filter in a method for maintaining catalyst temperature in an internal combustion engine.

Temperature of a particulate filter 7 provided on an exhaust passage in an internal combustion engine 1 to carry a catalyst is to be raised or maintained. A first temperature raising process to raise temperature of the filter 7 up to carbon monoxide oxidation activity temperature by decreasing intake quantity taken into the internal combustion engine 1, at least, a second temperature raising process to raise the temperature of the filter 7 to a hydrocarbon oxidation activity temperature by fuel injection into a cylinder 2 in an intake stroke, at least, and a third temperature raising process to raise the temperature of the filter 7 up to a particulate substance oxidation activity temperature by sub-injection conducted after main injection into the cylinder 2, at least, are executed at the same time.
