Processing a cam (3) of a camshaft, comprising an opening for connecting the cam with a shaft of the camshaft, and an outer cam surface (6), comprises coating the cam surface at least partially with amorphous carbon, preferably with diamond-like carbon, and processing the coated cam surface by precision machining, preferably by a super finishing processes. An independent claim is also included for the cam of a camshaft, processed by the above method.
