Abstract:
Preparing aromatic isocyanates, comprises reacting aromatic primary amines with phosgene in the gas phase, above the boiling temperature of the amines, in a reactor comprising a reaction chamber which is essentially rotationally symmetrical to the flow direction. The average cross section flow speed of the reaction mixture along the axis of the reaction chamber, which is rotationally symmetrical to the section of the reaction chamber, where the conversion of the amino groups to isocyanates is 4-80%, amounts to maximum of 8 m/s.
