Abstract:
To provide a method of recovering nickel sulfate from a nickel-containing waste water sludge.
The method comprises a first step wherein sulfuric acid is added to the nickel-containing waste water or sludge, a filtrate is cooled and crystallized to obtain a nickel crystal, the crystal is re-dissolved in water to precipitate and remove a trace amount of Fe3+contained in the crystal and a nickel sulfate solution is recovered, and a second step wherein iron powder is added to the filtrate obtained after the crystallization, cementation treatment is performed to replace nickel with iron and ferronickel powder is recovered and re-dissolved in sulfuric acid to recover the nickel sulfate solution. In the method, the nickel-containing waste water sludge is dissolved in sulfuric acid, calcium carbonate is added to the solution, iron contained in the solution is converted into Fe3+, the pH of the solution is adjusted, the solution is filtered to remove iron-containing gypsum, and the obtained nickel solution is concentrated, cooled and crystallized to recover the nickel crystal. The nickel-containing gypsum from which chlorine content has been removed by pH adjustment and filtration of a residual liquid after the crystallization of the nickel crystal is added to the nickel-containing waste water sludge and recycled.
