To provide a method for selecting a fender which method well takes into consideration the condition of a ship varying according to weather, an oceanographic phenomena condition (wave, tide, wind), a loading condition by cargo handling, etc., in addition to kinetic energy that the ship carries during aboardage.
A desired fender is provided as a selection candidate fender. A range satisfied by the distance between the ship and an object and the upper limit of energy absorbed by the fender in the middle of aboardage motion are set as selection conditions for selecting the fender. Then aboardage simulation is carried out based on a set environmental condition and an aboardage route, using a ship model, an object model, and a fender model. Distance values in time sequence in the middle of aboardage motion are reproduced by distance time sequence data, and absorbed energy values in time sequence in the middle of aboardage motion are reproduced by absorbed energy time sequence data, and whether both distance values and absorbed energy values satisfy the selection conditions is determined to select the fender.
