Abstract:
In the sepn. of substances in a liquid mixt. by crystallisation in a crystalliser, the surfaces of the crystalliser on which crystals grow is pretreated with a two-phase seeding film. The film comprises crystals of the mixt. suspended in a melt or soln. of the mixt. to be sepd.. The suspension is produced by freezing crystals from the melt or soln. and adding these to the melt or soln. The seeding film is applied by filling the crystalliser with the suspension or producing the suspension in the crystalliser, then emptying the crystalliser and freezing the film of suspension remaining on its surface; or by spraying the suspension onto the surface. Crystallisation is carried out in one or more stages. If NOTLESS 2 stages are used, the melt or soln. used to produce the suspension is purer than that used for crystallisation. Static or dynamic crystallisation may be used.
