Abstract:
The vehicle coolant system is fitted with only one temperature sensor controlled by a processor into which is programmed the various cooling rates of the coolant after the vehicle is switched off. The programme includes the thermal transfer rate between the engine and a virtual temperature sensor, the thermal transfer from the virtual sensor to the outside and the thermal capacities of the different parts of the vehicle and coolant system. The programme can be a simple first order type to include the varying effects of wind, environment etc., and higher order programmes can be used, and calculates temperature e.g. to activate heating in freezing conditions and to preset the air conditioning prior to starting the vehicle.
