In a human power detector for detecting the human power added to a hand rim (input member) 12 in a manual type electric wheelchair, the relative rotation of the hand rim 13 is transmitted to a rotating displacement transmitting member 21 radially engaged by slot with the hand rim 13, the relative rotation of the rotating displacement transmitting member 21 and a wheel 2 is converted into the axial displacement of a core 23 by a cam mechanism, the axial displacement of the core 23 is converted into the change quantity of self inductance of coils 24, 25 provided on the fixed side, whereby the human power is detected. Since the hand rim 13 is radially engaged by slot with the rotating displacement transmitting member 21, the axial displacement of the core 23 forming a differential transformer has no influence of a disturbance such as a horizontal force added to the hand rim 13, and only the circumferential human power added to the hand rim 13 can be precisely detected.
