Condition of a transmission 60 of a vehicle, wherein power from an engine 22 is output to driving wheels 39a and 39b through a planetary gear 30 and which is provided with a motor MG2 for outputting the power to the driving wheels 39a and 39b through the transmission 60, is changed in response to the operation of a shift lever 81 by the driver. As a result, the motion of the vehicle can be made to quickly correspond to the travelling request of the driver. Thereafter, condition of the transmission 60 is changed on the basis of the travelling condition of the vehicle. As a result, energy efficiency over the whole of the vehicle can be improved.
