Abstract:
A method of preparing a hybrid olefin metathesis catalyst is provided. The method comprises the steps of:
- contacting a molecular olefin metathesis catalyst, optionally dissolved in an organic solvent, with a silica support that includes a hydroxyl ligand capable of participating in a ligand exchange reaction;
- appending the olefin metathesis catalyst to the silica support via the ligand exchange reaction to form a hybrid olefin metathesis catalyst; and
- recovering the hybrid olefin metathesis catalyst. Preferably the molecular olefin metathesis catalyst is the Grubbs-I and/or Grubbs-II catalyst.
