This hybrid electric car is provided with: an internal combustion engine; a permanent magnet motor; a clutch; and an invertor for estimating a magnetic pole position by a first magnetic pole position estimation means when the permanent magnet motor rotates at low speed, and for estimating the magnetic pole position by a second magnetic pole position estimation means when the permanent magnet motor rotates at middle speed and high speed. In the case of interrupting the clutch, and making a vehicle travel with the permanent magnet motor as a driving force source, when the invertor detects any restartable abnormality, and stops, the invertor is not restarted, but the clutch is connected, and the vehicle is made to travel with an internal combustion engine as the driving power source.
