Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new specified hydantoin derivative having a trehalose skeleton, absorbing an ultraviolet ray in the UV-A region, excellent in water- solubility and useful as an ultraviolet absorber and a preparation for external use for preventing skin from melanizing.
SOLUTION: This new hydantoin derivative is represented by formula I [A is a residue of a trehalose from which (n) hydroxy groups are removed; X is H, methyleneoxide, a 1-20C alkyl or a 1-20C alkoxy; (a) is an integer of 1-5; (n) is an integer of 1-4], absorbs an ultraviolet ray in the UV-A region and is water-soluble and useful as an ultraviolet absorber and a preparation for external use for skin. The new hydantoin derivative having a trehalose skeleton is obtained by carrying out an ester-exchange reaction of a hydantoin derivative represented by formula II (R is an alkyl) with a trehalose represented by formula III in the presence of a base in a solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide at room temperature to 200°C.
