To obtain the subject zirconium silicate composition for purifying a nucleic acid, capable of more effectively and efficiently purifying the nucleic acid from a sample and used for a solid-phase extraction method, etc., for the nucleic acid by using a hydrated zirconium silicate bondable to the nucleic acid.
An aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is added to zirconium silicate beads and the resultant suspension is then refluxed for 72hr and cooled to ambient temperature. A 10% sulfuric acid is added to acidify the cooled suspension and the prepared acidic suspension is stirred at ambient temperature for 1hr, filtered and then washed with water three times and then with acetone three times and further dried in an oven at 100°C for 1hr to afford the objective hydrated zirconium silicate composition, having at least 2.0mg/μL density and bonding properties to the nucleic acid, capable of more effectively and efficiently purifying the nucleic acid from a sample and usable for a solid-phase extraction method, etc., for the nucleic acid.
