To provide a hydraulic brake for an industrial vehicle in which abrasive wear of braking materials can be prevented and high reliability is attained.
The hydraulic brake system comprises a rotor 4 which is supported rotatably within a main body case 2A, an input shaft 5 of which is connected to a turbine shaft 7 of a torque converter 1, and an output shaft 7 of which is connected to an input shaft 8 of a transmission 3 ; a plurality of blades 21 mounted on the rotor 4; and a hydraulic circuit which supplies pressure oil to the blades 21 to resist the direction of rotation of the turbine shaft 6, when the rotating speed of the turbine shaft 6 of the torque converter 1 exceeds that of an input shaft 41, or when the vehicle is driven a slope down. According to this constitution, when the vehicle is driving the slope down, the pressure oil is fed to the blades 21 of the rotor to resist the direction of rotation of the turbine shaft 6, thereby the kinetic energy of the vehicle is absorbed and the vehicle speed is retarded.
