To provide a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission having simple construction for control to achieve a shorter time for such garage shift wherein shift is executed from a P- or N-range into a D- or R-range.
The hydraulic control device includes a manual valve (a range selection valve) 7 for outputting P-, R-, N- or D-range pressure to achieve a P-, R-, N- or D-range, respectively, line pressure 1 as a first hydraulic pressure supply source for supplying hydraulic pressure to engage dual friction engaging elements (a second brake and a Low Rev brake) B2 with each other, a solenoid valve 2 as a second hydraulic pressure supply source for supplying hydraulic pressure to engage the dual friction engaging elements B2 with each other, and a selector valve (a selecting mechanism) 3 for freely selecting a first condition that engaging hydraulic pressure is supplied from the line pressure 1 to the dural friction engaging elements B2 during the selection of P- or N-range or a second condition that engaging hydraulic pressure is freely supplied from the solenoid valve 2 to the dual friction engaging elements B2 during the selection of the D- or R-range, in accordance with the range pressure output by the manual valve 7.
