A high pressure side passage 312 is formed in a valve body 307 so as to be opened at the inner peripheral surface 310a of a valve cylinder 310, and a low pressure side passage 311 is formed being opposed to the front end of a valve needle 313. The shaft part 313a of the valve needle 313 is formed with a part 316 having a sectional shape same as that of the inner peripheral surface 310a of the valve cylinder 310 and made in slide contact therewith so as to inhibit high pressure fuel from flowing into a spring chamber 306. In the valve needle 313 a through-hole 315 is formed which is always communicated with the low pressure side passage 311 and the spring chamber 306, and accordingly, both pressures are set to be equal to each other, and the valve needle 313 is operated only by the urging force of a spring 305 and an exciting force of a solenoid coil 319.
