The hydraulic cylinder 10 comprises a cylinder main body 16 to surround a first cylinder chamber 20, and a first piston rod 18 having a first piston 22 and a first rod 24. The first piston 22 partitions the first cylinder chamber 20 into a first head side 26 and a first rod side chamber 28. The first piston rod 18 has a second cylinder chamber 30. The cylinder main body 16 has a second piston rod 31 in the first cylinder chamber 20. A second piston 32 of the second piston rod 31 forms a second head side chamber 36 in the second cylinder chamber 30. When the hydraulic cylinder 10 is contracted, a working fluid pushed out of the second head side chamber 36 is merged into a working fluid fed into the first rod side chamber 28, so that the contraction is accelerated.
