PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shovel drive system capable of preventing generation of cavitation on a cylinder for oscillating an arm or a bucket due to influence of gravity force with an inexpensive constitution.SOLUTION: A hydraulic shovel drive system includes a cylinder for oscillating an oscillation portion, a control valve for controlling supply and discharge of a hydraulic oil to the cylinder, an operation device outputting an operation signal according to an inclination angle of an operation lever in receiving a first operation to make the oscillation portion approach a cabin, and a second operation to make the oscillation portion separate from the cabin, an electromagnetic proportional valve connected to a first pilot port for the first operation of the control valve, and a control device for controlling the electromagnetic proportional valve on the basis of the operation signal. The control device controls the electromagnetic proportional valve so that a pilot pressure output from the electromagnetic proportional valve is in proportion to the operation signal output from the operation device by an upper limit pressure, and the upper limit pressure is raised in accordance with approach of the oscillation portion to the cabin, when the operation device receives the first operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
