PURPOSE: To make it so as to assist a suspension spring by way of generating resilient force at the time of loading but no resilience in time of being emptied, in a hydraulic shock absorber to be attached to a suspension system in a vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: A bound spring 12 is installed in an outer cylinder 3 of a hydraulic shock absorber body 1, and one end is clamped to this outer cylinder 3 by a lower seat 13 and the other end is used as a free end and an upper seat 14 is attached thereto. In addition, a spring guide 15 is attached to a piston rod 5 and slidably inserted into the upper seat 14. Then, a stopper 16 is attached to a spring guide 15. Usually, as this stopper 16 separates from the upper seat 14, resilience of the bound spring 12 will not act on the piston rod 5 in time of an empty car. At the time of loading, the piston rod 5 is shortened and the stopper 16 comes into contact with the upper seat 14, and thereby the bound spring 12 is compressed, so the resilience acts in an extending direction of the piston rod 5, assisting a suspension spring. Accordingly, riding quantity and control stability at both emptying and loading times are reconcilable.
