To provide a simple and compact hydraulic continuously variable transmission so configured that, while the hydraulic continuously variable transmission is formed in a compact size, hydraulic fluid in a closed circuit is automatically replaced to cool the hydraulic fluid and the temperature of the hydraulic continuously variable transmission is prevented from being excessively raised.
A cylinder block 7 is formed with a hydraulic fluid discharge hole 7d for discharging hydraulic fluid from a low-pressure oil passage 45 of a pair of oil passages 35 and 45, the hydraulic fluid discharge hole 7d is provided with a flow rate control valve 55, and the flow rate control valve 55 is composed of a valve element 52 and an energizing member 53 and is configured to be closed at a set hydraulic pressure or more.
