Abstract:
The invention relates to hydrocarbon polymers containing ionic terminal groups of the formula I in which &lparstr& M<-)>n is a polyalkene or poly-1,3-diene, X is H or - &lparstr& (-R)3<-)>, Y is an element from group III of the periodic table R is alkyl or aryl, and A is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, and to a process for their preparation. In a preferred embodiment, M is isoprene or butadiene, Y is boron, R is C1-C4alkyl, phenyl or monosubstituted phenyl, and A is lithium or sodium. If the hydrocarbon polymer containing ionic terminal groups is to be used as a thermoplastic elastomer, X is - &lparstr& (-R3)<-)>, where &lparstr& M<-)>n is a poly-1,3-diene having a molecular weight of from 2,000 to 10,000 and having a high 1,4-content.
