To provide a hydrocracking method for hydrocarbon feed wherein a high catalytic activity and an improved selectivity of kerosene and gasoline are exhibited by conducting the hydrocracking in the presence of a catalyst comprising an amorphous or incompletely crystalline matrix of an oxide type, zeolite IM-5, and a hydrogenation-dehydrogenation element.
Examples of the amorphous or incompletely crystalline, inorganic microporous matrix are alumina, silica, silica-alumina, clay, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, boron oxide, zirconium oxide, aluminum phosphate, titanium phosphate, zirconium phosphate, and active carbon, among which alumina being preferable. Zeolite described in French Patent 2754809 and zeolite having the same-type structure are used as zeolite IM-5. A group VIB metal or a group VIII metal is used as the hydrogenation-dehydrogenation element. The catalyst is used together with a cocatalyst containing at least one element selected from among boron, silicon, and phosphorus, preferably containing boron and silicon.
