To provide a hydrogen separation device which can inhibit the leakage of a feedstock gas and obtain high-purity hydrogen gas.
First, a hydrogen separation cylinder 3 for separating hydrogen gas from a gas containing hydrogen, is configured to include a porous support 60 which is a modified catalyst and concurrently a support, and a hydrogen-permeable membrane 10. The porous support 60 is constituted of a reaction inhibitory layer (the first porous layer) 40 covering the outside surface of a porous support layer 50, a hydrogen permeable membrane 30 formed covering the outside surface of the reaction inhibitory layer 40 and a reaction inhibitory layer 20 covering the outside of the hydrogen permeable layer 30. The hydrogen separation membrane 10 is so formed as to cover the reaction inhibitory layer 20. The hydrogen permeable layer 30 is filled with a hydrogen permeable metallic material Pd in the way the layer can be formed in the porous support 60, and the hydrogen permeable membrane 10 is of a Pd thin membrane type. As the hydrogen separation layer is double-structured as described, it is possible to inhibit a leak which occurs in one structural half of the hydrogen permeable layer 30, using the other structural half. Thus, a high purity hydrogen gas can be stably supplied.
