Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immobilize hydrogen chloride gas in an acidic waste gas to be removed and, at the same time, to prevent dissolution of the immobilized chlorine ion.
SOLUTION: Hydrogen chloride gas is immobilized by brining an acidic waste gas into contact with a hydrogen chloride gas scavenger containing substances capable of supplying calcium oxide and silicon dioxide and having mole ratio of CaO/SiO2 within a range from 1.5 to 3.2 at 600-1,500°C. The reaction products, CaO-SiO2-CaCl2, 9CaO-6SiO2-CaCl2, and 2CaO-SiO2-CaCl2, are stable and even in the case of being brought into contact with water, calcium ion and chlorine ion are not eluted in water.
