To provide a hydrogen generator in which a flow of a raw material toward the whole of a catalyst in a reforming part is uniformized to utilize the whole of the catalyst and prevent an overload, so that a system of the hydrogen generator becomes efficient since the reforming efficiency is improved and the durability and reliability of the hydrogen generator become higher since the deterioration of the catalyst is prevented.
The catalyst is packed in the reforming part 8 while interposing an elastic sheet 22 between a wall surface and a catalyst layer 12 so that a gas, which flows into the reforming part and in which the raw material is mixed with steam, is brought into uniform contact with each catalyst in the catalyst layer 12. Since a uniform reaction is advanced in every portion of the catalyst, the performance of the catalyst can be ensured satisfactorily and the partial overheat or local reaction of the catalyst can be prevented. As a result, the system of the hydrogen generator becomes efficient since the reforming efficiency is improved and the durability and reliability of the hydrogen generator become higher since the deterioration of the catalyst is prevented.
