To provide a hydrogen formation apparatus which forms hydrogen by a reforming reaction, wherein the easiness in starting the reforming reaction is improved.
The hydrogen formation apparatus is provided with a plurality of heat exchanging groups 20 and 20' having a plurality of heating sections 21 and 21' which heat a reformation feedstock and a plurality of reforming sections 22 and 22' which reform the feedstock to form a hydrogen-containing reformed gas. The feedstock containing a hydrogen compound and a mixed gas containing a combustion fuel and combustion air are alternately fed into the groups 20 and 20'. The heat of the combustion gas generated when the mixed gas is fed and then burned raises the temperatures of the sections 21 and 21' being constituents of the groups 20 and 20' and the sections 22 and 22'. CO removal sections 23 and 23' which remove CO from the reformed gas are further provided. The sections 23 and 23' are air-cooled by adapting them so that they may be fed with only the combustion air.
