Abstract:
To provide a hydrogen production apparatus and a hydrogen production method in which chlorine generation can be suppressed by using salt water as a raw material in a hydrogen production by water electrolysis.SOLUTION: A hydrogen production apparatus and method for producing hydrogen by salt water electrolysis are provided, in which an electrolytic unit includes a cation exchanger between electrodes, an electrolyte containing no chloride ion is introduced into an anode side of the electrolytic unit, and salt water is introduced into a cathode side of the electrolytic unit. In the present invention, the electrolysis can be performed while maintaining a state that chloride ions that can be a factor of chlorine gas generation on the anode side do not exist. By this method, chlorine generation can be suppressed and salt water can be used as a raw material in the hydrogen production by water electrolysis, and furthermore, when the hydrogen production apparatus becomes large-scaled, an environmental load can be reduced with low cost.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
