The hydrogen storage alloy electrode using hydrogen storage particles which are expressed by a general formula Ln1-xMgxNiyAz includes an oxidized film formed on at least a part of a surface of the hydrogen storage alloy particles, oxygen concentration in the hydrogen storage alloy is 0.15 mass% or more and 1.5 mass% or less and oxygen mass per unit surface area in the hydrogen storage alloy particles is more than 0.5 g/m2 and 7.0 g/m2. In the formula: Ln is at least one element selected from a rare earth element including Y, Ca, Zr and Ti; A is at least one element selected from Co, Mn, Fe, V, Cr, Nb, Al, Ga, Zn, Sn, Cu, Si, P and B and a condition of 0.05x0.25, 0z1.5, 2.8y+z4.0 is fulfilled.
