To provide a hydrogen storage alloy which comprises a bcc phase having a high hydrogen storage capacity as a main phase and is suitable as an electrode for a secondary battery, and its production method.
The hydrogen storage alloy is composed of a Ti-Cr alloy base metal 1 having the phase (bcc phase) of a body-centered cubic crystal structure as the main phase and Ni-containing regions (Ni-deposited phases 2 and Ti-Ni alloy regions 3) formed in a dispersed manner on the surface of the Ti-Cr alloy base metal 1. This can inhibit the generation of a Laves phase, even when subjecting the surface of the Ti-Cr alloy base metal 1 to a heat treatment for forming the Ti-Ni alloy regions 3 having catalytic activities, thereby the high hydrogen storage capacity can be maintained.
