Abstract:

PURPOSE: To carry out the occlusion and release of hydrogen with initial activation treatment, the ease of operation in high-temp. region, and a slight pressure difference by substituting Co for a part of Mn in a ZrMn2 alloy having MgZn2- type Laves phase structure and also adding V to the above alloy.

CONSTITUTION: This hydrogen storage alloy has a composition which is represented by Zr(Mn1-xCox)YVz and in which a part of Mn in a ZrMn2 alloy having MgZnd2-type Laves phase structure is substituted by Co and also V is added to the above ZrMn2 alloy. In the above formula, the weight ratio Y of (Mn+Co) to Zr, the amount X of substitution of Co, and the additive quantity Z of V are limited to 1.7-2.3, 0-0.05, and 0-1, respectively.
