Abstract:

To obtain a lightweight, new and useful hydrogen storage material which can absorb a large quantity of hydrogen, can be manufactured at a low cost, can absorb/release hydrogen easily and to provide a method for manufacturing the hydrogen storage material.

This hydrogen storage material consists of a composite material containing silicon and carbon at the least and is manufactured by covering the surface of a silicon particle, on which a metal catalyst is deposited, with the carbon formed by pyrolyzing an organic silane compound. At least one metal selected from Ni, Fe and Co is used as the metal catalyst.
