Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a cheap metallic material capable of compactly storing hydrogen by adding a specified amt. of Cu or Ni to Zr.

CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of Cu 5W20wt% or Ni 5W40wt% and the balance Zr is manufactured. This metallic material has performance comparable to pure Zr even at a considerably low hydrogen absorbing start temp. and it is superior in characteristics such as hydrogen absorption press., hydrogen emission temp. and hydrogen emission press. Under a press. atmosphere of 1Wover 10kg/cm2G the vol. of hydrogen emitted from Zr-34%Ni alloy is almost equal to that from pure Zr at a temp. about 400°C below the hydrogen emission temp. of pure Zr. This metallic material can be obtd. relatively cheaply.
