Abstract:
A polymer blend comprises 4-40 pts. wt. of a block copolymer (I), 5-48 pts. wt. of >=1 dissimilar engineering thermoplastics (II) and a thermoplastic polyurethane (III) in a wt. ratio of (III) to (II) of >1:1. In the blend, >=2 of the polymers have at least partially continuous interlocked networks. (I) comprises >=2 monoalkenyl arene polymer end blocks of av. mol. wt. 5000-125000 and >=1 completely hydrogenated conjugated diene polymer mid block of av. mol. wt. 10000-300,000, the end blocks making up 8-55 wt.% of the block copolymer. (III) has a crystalline structure and m.pt. of >120 degrees C. (II) is selected from polyarylethers, polyarylsulphones, polycarbonates and acetal resins. (I) acts as a mechanical or structural stabilisers that interlocks the polymer networks and prevents separation of the polymers during processing and subsequent use. The blends are used in any application normally performed (II) e.g. metal replacements.
