PURPOSE: To obtain a halogenated amino aromatic derivative with advantage by hydrogenating the titled compd. with Raney Ni as a catalyst in the presence of a sulfur derivative in the reaction system to prevent hydrolysis and/or hydrocracking of a carbon-halogen bond.
CONSTITUTION: The halogenated amino aromatic derivative, particularly ananiline halide, is obtd. with advantage by reacting the halogenated nitro aromatic derivative, e.g. a compd. of Formula [where Ar = a monocyclic, polycyclic or heterocyclic aromatic derivative group, optionally substd. with C1-4 alkyl; X-Z=F, Cl, Br; n, p, q = integer of 0-5, on the condition that (n+p+1) = at least 1], with hydrogen under the existence of Raney Ni as the catalyst, which is inexpensive and especially suitable for continuous hydrogenation, and the S derivative, e.g. a sulfide, a hydrosulfide, a Ca sulfite, a Ca hydrosulfite, an ammonium sulfite, an ammonium hydrosulfite or an org. Sderivative, (e.g. disulfide, thiophene, thioxane, thiourea, particularlythiourea).
