PURPOSE: To reduce a peroxidic ozonolysis product hydrogenolytically to the corresponding carbonyl compound in a high yield and purity in an inert solvent under a specific hydrogen pressure at a specific temperature in the presence of a monolith catalyst in stead of a catalyst suspension.
CONSTITUTION: A peroxidic ozonolysis product is subjected to a hydrogenolytic reduction in an inert organic diluent at hydrogen pressures of 0.01-2.0 Mpa, especially 0.1-1.0 Mpa, at temperatures of -10 to 150°C, especially 15 to 70°C in the presence of a monolith catalyst to obtain the corresponding carbonyl compound. The monolith catalyst is preferably a catalyst carrier coated with a noble metal or a catalyst carrier comprising a metal. The peroxidic ozonolysis product is placed in a storage container V, and this is subjected to hydrogenolysis through an apparatus comprising a pomp P, a hydrogen valve VE, a hydrogen pressure meter P, the monolith catalyst, a container G, a circulating pump K and a sampling unit A which are serially connected with a line for reaction solution to obtain a carbonyl compound. The container G in said apparatus is preferably connected to a distillation apparatus D.
