To obtain absorbents for aq. liquid without fines at all and having abrasion-fastness and high swellability by coating with non-reactive, water- insoluble film-forming polymers in hydrophilic, highly swellable hydrogels used as absorbents in hygiene products.
The absorbents for aq. liquid are formed by coating hydrophilic, highly swellable hydrogels with non-reactive, water-insoluble film-forming polymers. Preferable polymers have the film-forming ability within the range from -1 to 130°C and are water-insoluble but permeable in water or swellable in an aq. soln. In particular, those forming polymer films having tensile strength of 0.5-15 Newton/mm and elongation at break of 100%-1,000% are used. As these polymers, there may be mentioned homo- or copolymers of vinyl esters, homo- or copolymers of acrylic or methacrylic esters and polyacetals or the like.
