To provide a surface hydrophilic member with advantages such as excellent hydrophilic nature, successful wear resistance, water resistance, durability and weatherability, especially outstanding adhesion between a base and a hydrophilic layer, formed on the surface of various kinds of the base, and a manufacturing method of the hydrophilic member.
This hydrophilic member comprises a base overlaid with an intermediate layer and a hydrophilic film, overlaying the former, which is obtained by applying the film containing (a) a hydrophilic polymer, (b) a metallic alkoxide compound selected from the group consisting of Si, Ti, Zr and Al and (c) a metallic complex catalyst. Further, the intermediate layer is obtained by applying the intermediate layer containing at least one kind of coupling agent or its hydrolyzate, and is a layer bonded with the hydrophilic film through a condensation reaction.
