Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrous soft contact lens material consisting mainly of a copolymer obtained from three kinds of specific components, excellent in transparency and flexibility, also excellent in oxygen permeability independent of its water content, and having high mechanical strength and moderate hardness.
SOLUTION: This soft contact lens material consists mainly of a copolymer made from virtually the following three components: (A) 15-40wt.% of N,N- dialkyl (meth)acrylamide (pref. N,N-dimethyl acrylamide), (B) 10-30wt.% of an N-vinyllactem (pref. N-vinylpyrrolidone) and (C) 30-70wt.% of a bis(silicon- contg. alkyl) fumarate. The component C is e.g. a compound of formula I (R1-R6 are each methyl or trimethylsiloxy of formula II; (m) and (n) are each 1-3), pref. bis[tris(trimethylsiloxy)silylpropyl] fumarate in view of having marked effect of imparting this material with oxygen permeability. Besides, for improving shape stability and transparency, etc., of this material, it is recommended to blend the above three components with a crosslinking agent.
